Jennie Foundation 2018 Culinary Scholarship #1

This evening we had the privilege of meeting Jessie Gayle, who was selected by the Culinary Institute of America to receive the first of two Jennie Foundation Culinary Scholarships for 2018.  The CIA gives “Side-Towel Scholarships” to students who have financial need, to meet school and life expenses.  With your help, the Foundation was able to fund two of these awards in 2018.

We met for dinner at a local restaurant and enjoyed wonderful Italian food and delightful conversation with Jessie, who one day hopes to open his own restaurant.  We’d like to share Jessie’s note to the Foundation, expressing his appreciation for his award:

Thank you for choosing me to receive to receive the Side Towel – Jennie Foundation Scholarship in honor of your daughter, Jennifer LePera.  By funding the scholarship you have given me motivation to maintain my GPA and complete my degree here at the Culinary Institute of America.

Please accept my heartfelt condolences on the passing of your daughter and sister Jennifer.  I cannot express enough gratitude to the Jennie Foundation.  By awarding me the scholarship, you have helped relieve the financial burden I face as a student without parental support due to losing my own mother as an infant child.  Thanks to your generosity, I will be able to take some time to focus on my upcoming classes, something that is especially important as this will be my final semester at CIA.

I look forward to my career as a CIA Alumni Culinary Chef.  The Foundation’s generosity has also inspired me to give back to the community once I begin my career.  It is my goal to teach young children how to seek out fresh ingredients and prepare simple healthy snacks instead of readily available pre-processed foods.  I thank you for your confidence and willingness to help me achieve my goals.

I look forward to meeting with you and speaking to you more about my plans for the future.  It will be my honor to let you know in person how your beloved Jennifer’s legacy has now helped another student reach goals once thought to be out of reach.

We wish Jessie the best in his career and his future.  He is a very pleasant young man who is working hard to achieve his dreams, now made a bit more attainable thanks to your help.
