Jennie Day February 2019, and other updates

The February Jennie Day meal consisted of Beef Stroganoff, salad, and chocolate chip cookies for dessert. There were also heart-shaped brownies for Valentine’s Day, expertly sliced by our Foundation President. We’d like to thank Bill and Sandy Gifoli for their generous sponsorship of the February meal. We still have a few sponsorship slots open for 2019. If you are considering sponsoring a meal, you can learn more about the meal program and sign up for sponsorship at

We recently received a lovely thank you letter from Alexandra Ceribelli, who is the recipient of the second Jennie Foundation Scholarship for 2018. We are pleased to share it with you:

To the Family of Ms. Jenny Le Pera,

My name is Alexandra Ceribelli and I have recently been awarded the honor of receiving The Jenny Le Pera Memorial scholarship.

As a parent myself, I can only imagine how tough losing such an amazing daughter could be. My heart and gratitude extends miles, and I believe that this scholarship is one way that her legacy lives on.

I began CIA as an adult student and single mother from NYC to a then 18-month-old son, Emilio. Prior to coming to CIA, I ran a kitchen at a women and children’s homeless shelter, taught elementary school cooking for a non-profit in Tribecca, and have taught classes and helped others in need. My education at CIA is another step in my commitment to help people gain access to nutritious food, job training programs, and practical cooking applications for home.

Since I started in June 2017, I have finished the Associates portion of the program and begin Bachelor’s in January 2018. My major, Applied Food Studies, is dedicated to the connection between food and community. I graduate in July!

Through the memory of Jenny, her passion for cooking and her generous personality, you have given me the opportunity to continue the program, purchase books and supplies, and transport myself and my almost 3-year-old son to our schools. I am honored and grateful. Thank you!

We hope to meet Alexandra and learn more about her work helping women in need, as well as her plans for the future. We’d also like to extend our thanks to our donors, who make these scholarships possible.

Finally, we are pleased to announce our first fundraiser of 2019.  On Thursday, March 21, we will be hosting an event at BuffaloWild Wings at 1794 South Road, Wappingers Falls, NY.  Both lunch and dinner, dine-in and take-out are included.  BWW will donate 20% of your check directly to the Foundation when you present your server with our fundraiser ticket, which is available at

Take a night off from cooking and come out to support The Jennie Foundation!
