News July 2020

We have some exciting news to share – the Ronald McDonald House of the Greater Hudson Valley, the place we called “home” for over 50 nights during Jen’s treatment, will begin a phased re-opening this coming week! The number of families that can be accommodated will be limited at first, but the wonderful facilities and resources will once again be available to families suffering through harrowing times.

The monthly Jennie Day Meals at the House will also restart this week. Unfortunately, the House must restrict group volunteer activities to ensure the safety of the resident families and staff, so we will not be able to cook and serve the meals on-site. Instead, we will send the meal donations we received directly to the House, which will allow them to bring in food from local restaurants. We are looking forward to when we can resume cooking at the House for these families.

The sponsorships of the meals for the three months the House was closed were moved to 2021. We would like to thank Patti and Arnie Lurie, Bob and Marylou Martin, and Rosemary Mercanti for sponsoring the April, May, and June 2020 meals and we look forward to preparing and serving these meals in 2021. Meal sponsorship opportunities for 2021 remain available; if you are considering sponsoring a meal, please visit https://a.jenniefoundation.org/meal-sponsorship for more information and to sign up.

We’d also like to announce the Jennie Foundation 2020 Scholarship recipients:

Roy C. Ketcham High School:

Shea Mastrantuono, Nursing
Catherine Schweiger, Music
Kevin Torhan, Music
Helena VanBenschoten, Nursing

John Jay High School:

We congratulate all these students and wish them success in their studies.
